Since graduating from the highly reputable Florida School of Massage in 1989 with over 1,000 hours (Florida has recognized the massage profession with licensing since 1943, so schools are very established), I have lived in and maintained a private practice in four different states.

I have also worked alongside chiropractors and physical therapists (PTs), subcontracted for national racing teams at world-class mountain bike (MB) racing events, was the personal massage therapist for world class MB racers, and worked in a spa (www.dayspringspa.net). Since 2005, I have been a member of a physical therapy team at Euro Team in downtown Decorah that treats kids with special needs and persons with spinal cord injuries (www.euroteampt.com).

Additional Training and Experience

Extensive training includes: Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), John Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy (CST) series which included Somato Emotional Release (SER) and Pediatric CST, as well as numerous continuing education classes. Unique training also includes two years mentoring with a certified Rolfer (www.rolf.org and/or www.rolfguild.org).

I have also been fortunate to have received bodywork from a wide variety of modalities from accomplished practitioners over the years. This includes CST & SER, NMT, Visceral Manipulation (VM), Rolfing (I received the 10 session series, as well as work from 8 different Rolfers), Maya Abdominal Massage, as well as many other therapies (SMRT, sensory deprivation tanks, Acupuncture and Chinese herbs, Lymphatic Drainage, Watsu, Colonic Hydrotherapy, Sacral Occipital Technique, Osteopathic manipulation, Yoga, Intuitive readings, Nutritional Balancing from hair mineral analysis, and more). I have taught several basic massage classes and co-taught a ShareCare (dedicated to care givers) CST workshop.

Life-Changing Results

Involvement in the body/mind movement has had life-changing results as it has allowed me to experience first-hand the power of manual and touch therapy in treating chronic pain as well as other mind/body issues. Here are a few examples:

  1. My Sports Massage instructor completely cured my 10-year back pain in two ½ hour sessions. I was thrilled and impressed!
  2. During the gentle CST session by a PT in San Francisco, CA, I both heard and felt my parietal and occipital bones separate, and the headaches I’d been having for months ended.
  3. Deeply relaxed in a sensory deprivation tank, I had an image of walking down a familiar trail, but there was brush in my way. I scooped up an armful to remove it and as I did, my arms flew up and I snapped into full consciousness. The tension in my shoulders and arms was gone. It was an amazing experience.

I’m blessed to be able to use my skills and experience to help clients regain and improve their health and well- being.

Client Testimonials

“I was referred to Carol after 1½ years of struggling with severe migraines and neck pain. I had been to multiple doctors, specialists and visited a chiropractor weekly. It wasn’t until I went to Carol for a few treatments that my headaches started to diminish. She changed my life and I will be forever grateful for what she has done for me. Amazing!” – M. M.

“I came to Carol because I was frantic for relief from whiplash. Carol has worked wonders for me. For the first time in over a year (since the accident), I am getting consecutive days pain free.” – M. H.

“Carol’s work is tremendous! I have finally found some migraine relief after 15 years! She truly cares about her clients and I am beyond pleased with my results.” – T. K.

“Carol is one of the few that can actually get me to relax.” – R. B.

“When I first came to Carol I had been experiencing debilitating pain despite receiving other therapy. After my first visit with her, I felt like I had my life back. So happy and grateful to have Carol in our community!” – B. B.

“Carol’s ability to accurately read my body and work within my limitations I have experienced with no other practitioner. She was the only person able to give me relief when I was experiencing nerve compression and could no longer safely hold my son. Even if I moved I would still come to see her!” – L. P.

“Thank you for helping me.  After 5 months of regular care from a trusted chiropractor and acupuncturist back in Maryland, I only had minor improvement in the pain I was experiencing in the hip when I would try any strenuous exercise.  With your treatment, I noticed MAJOR improvement after only 2 days.  I have been able to resume my P90X workouts, biking at a high level, and swimming (all with no pain).  All of this has been possible after working with you for 2 sessions.  I can’t thank you enough!” – P.L.

I accept women clients in my home office and senior citizens in theirs. Please contact me with any questions.

A note about how I treat seniors: With elderly parents of my own, as well as experience working with seniors, I have learned that it is not necessary to use a massage table. In fact, I’ve come to prefer that they lie across the end of their bed (or on the side of beds with foot railings) or sit in a comfortable straight chair, wearing loose clothing. Faces become clearly visible to indicate pain or discomfort (face down in a face cradle prohibits this). Sessions are usually shorter in duration (25 minutes). I bring my stool, which allows me to work comfortably to address any particular needs, or provide a general over all circulation enhancing and feel-good massage experience.

Conditions that may preclude senior massage are:

  • Thrombosis (blood clot)
  • Thrombophlebitis (inflammation of a vein: that area or appendage is avoided)
  • Severe edema (swelling)
  • Skin lesions, bruises or sensitivity (although these can be avoided)
  • Inflammation or fever
  • Abdominal aneurysm

A physician’s referral is recommended, especially after a stroke or heart incidents.

Statements from two senior clients receiving regular treatment:

“I suffer from peripheral neuropathy. My hands were painful to the touch and my feet had no feeling. I visited my doctors and tried a few things after many tests, but there was no improvement. After just a few sessions with Carol, with special attention to hands and feet, there was definite improvement. My hands began to be able to do things again without pain. My feet actually began to have feeling and my balance is greatly improved, to say nothing of my confidence. Thanks, Carol!” – S.A. age 88

“When I started using Carol for my neck problem, the pain was pretty much steady. Now it has cut back and is less intense (from a “10” to “2-3”) so now I have a break from the pain.” – K.A. age 89
