Laura Gentry

Laura Gentry, known as Laughing Laura, is the Founding Director of the Iowa School of Laughter Yoga. She has been a pioneer in spreading the laughter movement throughout the United States and around the world.

So far, she’s led laughter yoga on six continents, most recently at an integrative medicine conference in Jerusalem.

In addition to teaching and offering motivational programs of laughter yoga, Laura and her husband produce laughter yoga educational resources.

These include six CDs, a book of laughter exercises and the film Laughter Friends: A Laughter Yoga Workout for Kids, which was recommended by the American Library Association and selected by Operation Military Kid to reduce the stress of children whose parents are deployed overseas.

Education and Credentials

Laughing Laura has studied with the founder of laughter yoga, Dr. Madan Kataria of Bangalore, India. She was awarded the honorary title of Laughter Ambassador  by Laughter Yoga International University and is the first woman in America to have become a Master Trainer of laughter yoga.

Also known as the Reverend Gentry, Laura is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She graduated from Luther College with an Bachelor of Arts in art, theatre, and dance. Then, she earned two master’s degrees from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. She is the pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing, Iowa.

Additionally, Laura is a facilitator of Family Constellations, having completed Relational Leadership Training with Peter Devries of Mill Valley, California.
